Admin committee meeting cancelled

The Lancaster County Administration Committee meeting scheduled for Jan. 11 has been cancelled.

County offices close Jan. 15 for MLK Day 

Lancaster County offices will be closed Jan. 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. The offices will resume normal business hours Jan. 16. Emergency services – fire, police and EMS – will operate normal hours through the holiday.

County planning meeting Jan. 16

The Lancaster County Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Lancaster County Administration Building, 101 N. Main St., Lancaster.

PV fire district board meets

The Pleasant Valley Fire Protection District Commission meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department, 9370 Possum Hollow Road, Indian Land.

IL fire district board to meet

The Indian Land Fire Protection District Commission meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department, 185 Six Mile Creek Road, Indian Land.

IL Action Council to meet Jan. 18

The Indian Land Action Council meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Del Webb Library at Indian Land, 7641 Charlotte Highway. Speakers will be Dr. Jonathan Phipps, Lancaster County School District superintendent, and Bryan Vaughn, LCSD safety director. Other county board and commission members will provide updates. County Republicans meet Jan. 25

The Lancaster County Republican Party meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in the office of Mike Williams Builders, 1351 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster. Glenn McCall of the Republican National Committee will speak. The public is invited to attend.

Library board meets Jan. 30

The Lancaster County Library Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the meeting room at the Del Webb Library at Indian Land, 7641 Charlotte Highway.

VW club offers safety class Feb. 6         
The Van Wyck Community Development Club and Sgt. Bill Murphy with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor a Citizens’ Response to an Active Shooter class at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Van Wyck Community Center, 5036 Old Hickory Road. All are welcome.

CCA offers help with energy bills

The Lancaster County office of Carolina Community Actions Inc. is taking applications to help low-income families with home energy bills and other programs and services. Family households must be income-eligible and provide supporting documents to qualify. Apply 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday at 101 Wylie St., Lancaster. For details, call (803) 285-2034.

Senior rental help available

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging administers an emergency rental assistance program for seniors funded through the S.C. Finance and Development Authority.

The program provides short-term help to low-income seniors ages 60 and older. It provides money for rent, which is sent to the property owner or landlord.

Recover lost property from sheriff’s office

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office advertises found property on its website, www.lacoso.net. A list of the property, which has been recovered by deputies and placed into evidence for safekeeping, can be seen in the news section of the sheriff’s office website.

Rightful owners can contact the evidence and property unit at (803) 313-2102 to describe the item and claim ownership. The sheriff’s office is allowed by state law to dispose of the property after a 90-day period, after exhausting all reasonable efforts to find the legal owner.

DAV posts schedule for van to Columbia

The Disabled American Veterans van travels from Lancaster County to Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and to Rock Hill on Fridays for scheduled doctor appointments. For details, call (803) 283-2469.
