Cheraw edged Indian Land to take the Region IV-AA wrestling tournament title at Buford High School on Jan. 28.
The Braves compiled 39 points, while Indian Land had 37 to place second in the all-region tournament at BHS.
Central of Pageland was third with 26 points and BHS had 21. The host Jackets had eight wrestlers in 14 weight classes.
Indian Land had six wrestlers capture individual weight titles, while three Warriors placed second.
Taylor Pendleton (113, 3-0, two pins), Jared Smith (132, 3-0, 2 pins), Shawn Washington (138, 3-0, 3 pins), George Morris (145, 3-0, 1 pin), Logan Creed (152, 3-0) and Marc Morris (heavyweight, 3-0) led the Indian Land winners.
IL runner-up finishers included James Daley (106), Devin Curtsinger (120) and Jonathan Rowe (126).
Will Chapman (195) placed third in the tournament. Donovan Patterson (160) and Eric Taylor (170) each placed fourth.
“We took 12 wrestlers and had six champions and three runners-up, so it was a pretty good day for us,” IL wrestling coach Rondale Truesdale said. “We picked up the intensity and were focused. We feel our tough schedule helped us prepare for a tough region race.”
The Warriors competed in the Class AA Upper State wrestling tournament Saturday at Powdersville. Results were not available at press time.
