Library summer programs under way
The Del Webb Library at Indian Land’s summer reading programs  are under way for readers of all ages. Children, teens and adults may sign up at the library circulation desk.
Special children’s events at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesdays include movies today, June 13, June 27 and July 25, a hula hoop dance party June 20, craft day July 11 and a visit from library hip-hop superstar Melvil Dewey on July 18. These are free ticketed events, with a limit of five advance tickets per adult. Tickets available beginning at 9 a.m. the day of the performance.
Seventh- through 12th-graders may register for a variety of free Teen Takeover events including “Minute to Win It” game night Tuesday, June 19, a Teen Tech Petting Zoo on July 7, Teen Book Bash on July 17 and National Teen Library Lock-In on Aug. 3.

Veterans to hold flag ceremony Thursday
The Lancaster County Veterans Affairs Office, in conjunction with several veterans organizations, will raise the U.S. Army flag at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Lancaster County Administration Building, 101 N. Main St., Lancaster. Veterans are invited and refreshments will be served. For details, call (803) 283-2469.


Two pet adoption events in June
The Humane Society of Lancaster County SC will hold two adoption events this month – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Tractor Supply in Lancaster and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 at the Pressley Animal Hospital in Matthews, N.C.
Low-cost rabies shots will be available, along with food, children’s games, prizes, raffles and giveaways. The Mobile Vet will be also be at the June 16 event.


IL library offers adult computer classes

The Del Webb Library at Indian Land will offer computer classes for adults for $10. Classes are designed to help individuals improve their job skills.
Microsoft Word Intermediate will be offered Monday, June 18. Microsoft Excel Intermediate will be offered June 21 and Microsoft PowerPoint on June 22. Each class meets from 2 to 5 p.m.

ALS support group to meet Tuesday  
The Palmetto ALS Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the Marion Sims Theatre at Springs Memorial Hospital, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster.


Playhouse presents ‘Confection Cabaret’

The Community Playhouse of Lancaster County will present “Confection Cabaret: A Night of Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice,” at 7 p.m. June 23 at the Carole Ray Dowling Center at the University of South Carolina Lancaster.
The playhouse will travel through the lives of women using music and monologues. There will be a dessert buffet from Cakes and More by Pierre, auctions and raffles.

Fatherhood Project festival June 23
The Lancaster Fatherhood Project will hold a festival, Unity in the Community, from 5 to 9 p.m. June 23 on Main Street. There will be free entertainment, food, games, information and prizes.

Sign up now for LCCA summer arts camp
The Lancaster County Council of the Arts will hold its summer Arts & Sciences Camp in Indian Land on July 30-Aug. 3 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The week-long camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $60 for Arts Council members, $75 for non-members. A late fee will be charged after Friday, June 15. USCL to hold diabetes camp

The University of South Carolina Lancaster will hold a summer camp for children with Type 1 diabetes and their siblings from 2 to 5 p.m. June 25-28. Activities include swimming, healthy snack options, diabetes education and more. For details, call (803) 313-7450.

Celebration of Summer Concert June 24
The 2012 Celebration of Summer concert will be at 3 p.m. June 24 at Christ Episcopal Church, 534 Plantation Road, Lancaster.
The concert is produced in collaboration with EMK Music, Christ Episcopal Church, Lancaster County Council for the Arts and See Lancaster. The show will include a trio sonata, a flute trio, a double bass and an organ and feature music from popular composers, such as John Loeillet and Antonin Dvorak, as well as the famous “Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera.”
Admission and parking is free. Cash donations for Christ Episcopal Church and Lancaster County of the Arts are appreciated.

Golf and Rotary clubs collect items for kids
Carolina Lakes Golf Club and the Indian Land Rotary Club are collecting food, paper and toiletry donations for the Rock Hill Children’s Attention Home and the Lancaster Children’s Home. Indian Land residents may drop off canned goods, paper products or toiletry items in the lobby of Carolina Lakes Golf Club, where there is a collection container.
