Column: Here's how to keep America afloat

History explains a fact that is hard to believe. During the Revolutionary War, not all were in favor of liberty. One-third wanted freedom, one third didn’t and the other third stayed neutral. It is evident that those figures haven’t changed since 1776.

The Democrats at this time are circumventing the Constitution. This is proof enough that the one-third who wanted to stay under the king’s rule are as alive and well today as they were 200 years ago. More proof are the results of the 2008 election, which voted in a Democrat President (Barack Obama) and a majority of Democrats in the House and Senate. The result is a one-party rule. This is a dangerous step to take which could easily lead to a dictatorial government. This has given those who want to overthrow freedom the power to put forth a plan to eliminate the few freedoms that are left.

It has taken 200 years to reach the straw-and-camel effect. It has been a battle, but the people have succumbed to the idea that a ruler or king is better than individual freedom. With glee, the Democratic Party and the moderate Republicans will gladly remove individual freedoms from the one-third who do not want to lose those precious rights.

What is the point of fighting to be a free people? Do they want to become serfs and be led by the rulers of government? You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see how the politicians have removed some of our rights under the guise that it is good for the country. When you lose a right, you can never get it back.

The anointed politicians in the House and Senate are trying to keep their seats for life. A typical example is John Spratt with almost 30 years in Congress. John Spratt supports the liberal Democratic Party almost 100 percent of the time, even if it means stepping on freedoms that are written into the Constitution.

Obama and the Democrats, along with the moderate Republicans, are taking this country into a suicide dive into the realm of a dictatorship and sitting in the seat beside Obama is John Spratt.

I call it the “Gas Chambers of Democracy.” Stalin and Hitler led millions into death camps and into gas chambers. Why did they go without putting up a fight? Sooner or later, millions could have overpowered the guards. It was done with lies, deception and empty promises – sound familiar?

Obama has not kept one campaign promise. I apologize, he said over and over again “change, change” – that campaign promise he kept. The change is into the darkness of obscurity and into the “Gas Chambers of Democracy.”

I have been a conservative all my life. Volunteered four years in the military, tried to do what is right, stay within the law and vote whomever is the best for the country, etc. This last presidential election, I held my nose, closed my eyes and voted for John McCain – different party, same good old boy stuff. Who do you vote for when both parties put up lame candidates?

South Carolina is blessed with one excellent senator, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, and in the running for the House seat is an outstanding candidate, Mick Mulvaney.

John Spratt is supposed to represent all the people in his districts, if not, he should think of the people of South Carolina when he casts his vote. Today, his vote affects the whole country. He is supposed to vote the will of the people, not the will of the party or himself. At one time, he might have, but when a politician considers Washington, D.C., their home for life, the people back home are thrown overboard into the sharks of obscene taxes and no representation. In other words, they just become a tool only used at voting time.

Here's a little story to illustrate what I'm trying to say:

The keel of the ship America was laid in 1776. It took 200 years to put the last finishing touches on this vessel now called Freedom. It was a fine-looking ship and it had quarters for everyone, plenty of food, even had a hospital that was free to everyone. To all those who wanted to learn navigation, that was free also. If anyone wanted to participate in keeping the vessel “ship-shape,” it was there just for the asking.

This ship was special, because it was one of two greatest ships ever built – Noah’s Ark and Freedom. Both ships were designed by the same architect, God. Noah’s Ark weathered a terrible flood, but kept afloat in towering waves, carrying a precious cargo of animals and human beings. A dove of peace was sighted and soon after the flood waters receded, the empty world welcomed this great ship of life.

The crew of Freedom managed to keep the ship afloat for 200 years. It was a tough job to get all the crew to do the necessary work in order to keep the ship afloat. Over the years, the politicians began to take control of the ships’ operations.

In 2009, the politicians almost overturned the ship because they all crowded around the steering wheel wanting to steer, making the ship top-heavy. Obama won out, with the help of ACORN and all the unions.

First mate Joe Biden ran to the bridge and told Obama that the ship was leaking water. As a community organizer, Obama said, “I can stop the leaks by driving the ship at top speed.” Biden said, “What a brilliant idea.”

Skimming across the sea of bureaucracy, Obama steered the ship Freedom.

Again, Biden ran up to the bridge, and said “Capt. Obama, a liberal Democrat was worried about drowning and is doing his best to push chewing gum into all the worm holes.”

Obama wanted more speed and ordered all the Democrats and moderate Republicans to help go faster. Biden gave them each an oar and said, “Row!”

Biden said, “How can we bail out?” Obama replied, “We have no pails, I gave them to the auto companies.”

Bad news from the bilge, the sea worms were discovered to be a species of tax-eating worms.

Some longtime congressmen said, “I get seasick, run this sinking ship in circles close to shore, so I can jump off and collect my extravagant pension.”

Around and around they went, and most jumped ship. Lower and lower Freedom sank into the water of uncertainty.

God said to the people, “You have my blessing, for it is the crew on the ship who are responsible for making laws against me.

"I will give you a word of advice if you want to see Freedom floating proudly on the sea of hope – vote. Vote all liberal Democrats and moderate Republicans out of office in the 2010 election and keep them out of office. "Your ship will stay afloat if you do that."

Thank you, God, for the good advice.
