Belair UMC plans February events
Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, will hold the following events this month:
• Thursday, Feb. 16, food pantry open from 9 a.m. to noon, for all in need of food
• Tuesday, Feb. 21, the church will celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a pancake supper at the Scout Hut at 6 p.m.
• Feb. 22, Belair will host a joint Ash Wednesday service with Osceola United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.

Pleasant Hill UMC announces events

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway (S.C. 160), offers the following upcoming events:
• The church is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. Call (803) 548-4922 to schedule a time.
• The M&M (Mature Members) Choir will be visiting the Havens on Thursday, Feb. 16. Meet at the church at 9:30 a.m.
• The church is offering a series of MAGI classes, designed to help you discover your spiritual gifts. The only remaining class is Saturday, Feb. 18, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call Lesley Blackwelder at (803) 547-1381 for details.
•The M&M (Mature Members) monthly luncheon will be at noon Feb. 23. The provided meat will be pork tenderloin. Bring a dish to share and enjoy a program by The MisSteps.
• “24 Hours That Changed the World:” This new study will guide you from the Last Supper through Jesus’ trial and crucifixtion. Two sessions will be offered during Lent. The Rev. Carl Settle will lead the 7 p.m. Thursday study, beginning Feb. 23; while Pastor Michael Ritter will lead the 10 a.m. Tuesday study, beginning Feb. 28.


Singing Saturday at White Oak AME Zion

White Oak AME Zion Church, 1281 W. Rebound Road, Van Wyck, will hold a singing at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. The event will feature the White Oak Praise Dancers, Women of Virtue of Chester, Minister Jarell Small of Charleston and more. For details, call (803) 372-1881.


Transformers to gather in Rock Hill
Transformation Church is expanding with a new Rock Hill location at South Pointe High School, 801 Neely Road. The new service will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. The Rock Hill campus will be led by the Rev. Scott Carroll.
The church’s current location, 9030 Northfield Drive in the Perimeter 521 Commerce Park off U.S. 521, led by Pastor Derwin L. Gray, will continue to host four weekend services at 4 and 6 p.m. Saturdays and 9 and 11 a.m. Sundays.

Black history program Sunday

Faith offers Lenten Bible study series
Faith Presbyterian Church will offer a Lenten Bible study series at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the church office, 7520 Charlotte Highway. The six-lesson series will begin Tuesday, Feb. 21, and will continue through March 27. The study will use John Indermark’s book, “Parables and Passion: Jesus Stories for the Days of Lent.” The studies are open to all, to attend only a few or the whole series.


Christian Women to meet Tuesday
The Lancaster Christian Women will meet for Prayer Connection at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at JoMars Family Restaurant, 278 S.C. 9 Bypass East, Lancaster.
The group’s next luncheon, “Luncheon of Love,” will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 28 at Captain’s Galley Restaurant, 1305 S.C. 9 Bypass, Lancaster.
The feature will be “Your Heart’s Desire” by Carol Reynolds of Consignments at Elginwood Farm. Music will be “Heart Songs” by Julian Saverance. The speaker will be Pam Morion of Aiken with “A Diamond in the Rough.”

Pineville UMC to hold Lenten service

Pineville United Methodist Church, 110 S. Polk St, Pineville, will eat a meal with its Room in the Inn Neighbors at 6:15 p.m.  Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the Crossroads Center, followed by a brief Ash Wednesday service at 6:45 p.m. in the center. The service will include the imposition of ashes as a sign of the call to repentance and reconciliation.


Harrison UMC plans consignment sale
Harrison United Methodist Church, 15008 Lancaster Highway, Pineville, will hold its spring and summer kid’s consignment sale March 1-3. The event offers gently used clothing for newborns through juniors/teens, maternity clothing, baby equipment, toys, furniture and more.

Osceola youth raise awareness of poverty
The Osceola United Methodist Church youth will begin a 24-hour famine at 6 p.m. March 23 to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness. At the end of the famine, at 6 p.m. March 24, there will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and womanless beauty pageant at the in the fellowship hall of the church, 6575 Charlotte Highway, to benefit the Belair United Methodist Church food pantry.


‘Body and Spirit’ classes offered
Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 211 Marvin Road, offers “Body and Spirit” exercise classes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
The classes include aerobics, kickboxing, circuit training, yoga and Pilates, followed by devotion and prayer.
Classes will be held in the church fellowship hall and all ages are welcome.
Bring a towel or mat for floor exercises.

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway (S.C. 160), offers exercise classes and more:
• Three new Bible studies began last month: Pastor Michael Ritter’s Bible study is at 10 a.m. Tuesdays. Susan Binley’s women’s Bible study is at 6:30  p.m. Tuesdays. The Rev. Carl Settle’s study is 7 p.m. Thursdays.
• The church is seeking members for its 2012 Relay for Life team. Team members will raise money for the American Cancer Society and take part in the April 27 Relay for Life event. To join the team, contact Janice Poston, Kathryn Burch or Pastor Michael Ritter. The church’s goal is $3,000. Those who cannot join the team may still help by buying footprints, luminaries and purple ribbons in honor or memory of loved ones or as business sponsorships. •  Sweatin’ with the Staff – Want to have fun exercising? Grab your towel and water bottle and join the church staff at 10 a.m. Monday and Friday in the fellowship hall for Richard Simmons’ “Sweatin’ to Oldies.” All ages are welcome.
•  Cardio Fit Club – This exercise class includes both low and high aerobics, kick boxing and dance for all ages, shapes and sizes. There is also an abdominal class following the cardio fit class. Classes are held on various nights throughout the week. Call (803) 548-4922 for schedule.
•  “Heavenly Dishes of Pleasant Hill” cookbooks are available for $15 each. The three-ring-binder cookbook contains 700 recipes. Call the church office at (803) 548-4922 to get one.
