Indian Land – Carol F. Parker, 86, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at her home in Sun City Carolina Lakes, Indian Land.
Born April 13, 1926, in Spring Lake, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Dr. James A. and Janet Ackerman Fisher. She was married to Gayle Parker for 62 years. She graduated from Northhampton School for Girls in Northhampton, Mass., in 1944 and attended Syracuse University. She was active in church and choral music in Easton, Pa., Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, Va. She accompanied her husband through four years at Lafayette College, where his fraternity brothers elected her Sweetheart of Sigma Chi in 1955. She lived most of her married life in Mount Vernon, Va., where she was a member of the Mount Vernon Country Club for 44 years, the Mount Vernon Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for 33 years and the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club. Locally, she was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Alison Parker of Louisville, Colo.; a son, Craig Parker and his wife, Monique, of Davis, Calif., and three grandchildren, Casey, Bryce and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James A. Fisher Jr.; and a sister, Joan Fisher Forsyth.
A memorial service will be held at at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Unity Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the foyer after the service. A private inurnment will be held at the church's Memorial Garden.
